If you loved the first one, the 2nd one is OK but more of the same.

One game can take 200 hours.īreath of Fire V: Fun and unique, but there's an element of repetition that some find objectionable coupled with the "you only get one save" dynamic.Īnd I still have Radiata Stories, DragonQuest VIII and Suikoden V on my "to play" list. Star Ocean: Till the end of time (Star Ocean 3) - Most gaming per $ possible. Great plot, though.įFXII - Very fun, interesting world, but not quite as strong on plot as FFX. When I say long, I mean LONG- like 45 minutes. Xenosaga 1-3 - I and II have frustrating parts and suffer from LONG cutscenes. Kingdom Hearts (yes, I know, Disney, but it's not what you think.) It's one of those things that you may not notice until it's fixed, but then when it's fixed you won't want to go back.Īny one of those 5 games would have made the console purchase 100% worthwhile for me. Play 3 FES first, as there's one feature of 3 that is slightly annoying and changed in 4. You've never seen- probably never thought of- anything like these. Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 - Two truly epic and unique RPGs. Tales of the Abyss - God Fucking Damn epic story. Note Suikoden III can be expensive-ish and Suikoden IV is crap so don't bother. Suikoden III - Great story, told from multiple viewpoints. As stated, it's a good introduction and gets you info on all the "in jokes" of the FF saga without expecting any previous knowledge. Gameplay is more straightforward than some other jRPGs and plot-heavy. This from a die-hard computer/PC gamer who generally avoids consoles when at all possible.įFX - I loved the story and it was a "made the console 100% worthwhile" purchase for me. The PS/2, IMHO was by far the strongest console of all time by virtue of having access to huge libraries of great exclusives with a large chunk of Japanese games and jRPGs. I don't believe I've touched the jRPGs at all. I've played everything released by interplay, black isle, bioware, troika, origin and bethesda.

I didn't play FPS until the PS3 so again I can't really offer much insight there.

I'm not into the Stealth/Action but I've heard the Metal Gear series is good. I could give you a lot more choices if you had a PS3 or 360, but I think those should do you pretty well. Kind of cutesy, not as good as RAtchet in my opinion, but still a good time.) * Sly Cooper (Action/Adventure type game. * Champions of Norrath (Action RPG, I think the sequel is Champions: Return to Arms or something like that.

* Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 & 2 (Action RPG, not quite as good as the PC Baldur's Gate, but enjoyable none the less) * Ratchet & Clank (Action/Platform type game. * Dragon Quest VIII (Beautiful turn based, cell shaded Japanese RPG) * God of War 1 & 2 (Action game, very good story line arc.) I know some of my suggestions are duplicates of what others said, but as a general rule, if many people suggest the same thing, it's worth trying out.

Godhand (buy a six pack of beers and begin chugging before you start for the optimal experience, also it's so hard you might end up flinging the controller at the TV and uttering enough curses to make baby Jesus cry)ĭevil May Cry 3 (bizarre but also awesome, insane, slick, fast, and just as hard as Godhand)

Zone of Enders 2 (more like a flying mech game, but with lots of shooty action)

Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal Xenosaga I-III (alternatively sprawling, intriguing, boring, catatonic, quirky, and ridiculous) Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (just in case you never did even on the PC, though you should totally play it on the PC instead)įinal Fantasy X/XII (meh/bleh, respectively, but functionally RPGs and pretty) Silent Hill 2 (horror, but try and play it anyway) Since you're getting the Metal Gear series, I highly recommend starting with the original Metal Gear Solid from the PSX era if you've never played it - it'll play quite handily on your PS2 - and then moving on to either 2 or 3 (save 3 for the last if you can it's almost literally the best game ever made for that generation of consoles).Ĭreme de la Creme (or, play these regardless of your usual genre inclinations):īurnout 3/Revenge (3 for gameplay, Revenge for graphics) Congratulations, you've gotten the only console that was worth starting off with anyway and certainly the one with the largest and most varied library.
